The Harp Bar- What's Your Poison?

July 23, 2018

In July I travelled to Belfast, Northern Ireland to complete the 7 Deadly Sins Mural for the Harp Bar. After weeks of planning and creating these illustrations they were painted onto individual 4ft x 4ft marine ply wood panels using a mixture of acrylic paint with brush and pump action paint pens.

Envy- Well haven't we all been guilty of this. Scrolling through instagram watching the highlight reel of someone else's digital life. Comparing their successes, possessions, qualities and luck to our own thinking "I want their sh*t".

Lust- That other 4 letter word that starts with L. You know the one full of passion and desire for affection & attention which comes walking through the door dressed as love but leaves in heartache. Who's right the heart or the head?

Sloth- Yeah we have all crossed paths with someone who lacks diligence and takes a ride on the back of other peoples success. Who cries misfortune but fails to take responsibility & lacks motivation to create a better life for themselves. Gets square eyes by living vicariously through the life of someone else because what is right is often forgotten by what is convenient. So ask yourself, what is something you have always wanted to do but haven't?

Pride- I guess it's not wrong to take satisfaction in a job well done. But for some who look at their own life through a telescope and others through a microscope it becomes the root of all sin. Vanity turns to overinflated egos, that screams 'me, me, me.' Perhaps we all need to remind ourselves (guilty 🙋🏼) that's humility is not thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less.

Wrath-I think the hardest thing you may ever have to do is forgive someone in times of uncontrollable hatred and the unquenchable desire to obtain revenge.. Patience has the power to break the chains of bitterness, unlock the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hatred. Is there someone you should forgive?

Gluttony- Aren’t we all sinners when we become hungry for more. The excessive desire for food, drink or wealth which causes it to be withheld from the needy. When you overstep the bounds of moderation, the greatest pleasures cease to please. Perhaps its an emotional escape, a sign that something is in fact eating at us within.

Greed- A bottomless pit of always wanting more. The endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction. Sometimes the simple things bring the most joy in life. So what is it that you love that money can’t buy?

MABG- So after arriving at Belfast, one of the tradesman working on the site was busted looking at photos of me painting in my bikinis on Instagram. So as the 8th sin I illustrated what Belfast now calls the Mad Aussie Bikini Girl

What's your poison?
