Nestled just off the Gold Coast Highway on Seventh Avenue in Palm Beach is Wildernis Cafe and Bar. The brainchild of locals Andy Canfield and Josh Bailey, Wildernis is a fusion of a relaxed dining atmosphere with some of the best beers, wines and cocktails the Gold Coast has on offer. Speckled with hanging plants and stag horns, Wildernis creates a unique destination for lunch, after work drinks and the perfect spot for weekend digs.
In May 2017 I was lucky enough to be offered their large white brick space in the rooftop section to fill with a unique artwork. Sticking to the venues hamptons and wild theme we opted for a 4m wide mandala filled bird. The design took 5 hours to plan and a further 23 hours to draw across the space of a week. Starting from carefully planned linework and moving into freehand drawn patterns throughout the birds feathers and body. The rough brick surface creating a unique canvas and texture to the artwork when applied with Ironlak Pump Action Pens in Roake.
The bird now sits perched above and can be seen from the Gold Coast highway making it a focal point for anyone passing.
